Proactive Safety in Action:  Recognition for Gregory Fontenot

Message from Customer’s Field Operations Manager for the East Gulf of America to ISS Safety Specialist, Gregory Fontenot:

We want to personally thank you for your recent safety observation regarding the suspended used oil tote on the production deck. Your attention to detail and quick action in identifying the uninspected rigging, improperly secured shackles, incorrect sling usage, lack of a lift plan, and unsecured chain fall exemplifies the kind of proactive safety culture we strive for.

By stopping the job, addressing the concern with the lifting authority, and ensuring the tote was safely lowered and the rigging removed, you not only corrected a potentially hazardous situation but also set a strong example for the team.  Also, by taking the time to enter this observation you allowed many others to learn from this situation.  It is always a blessing when we can learn from situations where no one was hurt or injured. 

 This intervention and coaching are exactly what we are looking for and the epitome of what our Live Safe Culture is all about.  Thanks again for your commitment to HSE.
